Only just caught the Eurostar, after a mad dash across London in a taxi - the bits of the Underground I wanted to use were closed :( Still, made it to Paris, had just enough time to grab a sandwich, then onto the Thalys high-speed train to Cologne. Was not that impressed with Cologne, apart from the Dom - a HUGE gothic cathedral, right next to the station. For one thing, what were they thinking about, building this ugly station/shopping/cafe complex literally a few feet away from such a stunning building... But Cologne was only an overnight stop, so onto Berlin, arrived here yesterday afternoon and loved it the minute I stepped out of the station - it just looks so bright, open and vibrant. Within a couple of hours of arriving I was at the top of the Reichstag dome - I've always loved that building, but didn't know you could go to top of it - amazing views! Today I've taken a look at the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz, eventually found someone who could take a decent picture of me in front of it - but sadly I can't upload pictures from this internet cafe - it's in a 'Dunkin Donuts' and you can't seem to get access to the computers to stick a memory card in (great iced ...

Entry from: Mendoza, Argentina Entry Title: "Santiago to Mendoza" Entry: "I have left Santiago behind and crossed the border from Chile into Agrentina on Sunday and am now staying in the town of Mendoza, famous for producing over 80% of Argentina´s wine. The bus journey across the Andes gave for some amazing views but the reflections in the window meant no photos came out, so sorry about that! My Spanish is still at a very basic level, I can ask for things, and give basic greetings, but have no idea what is being said back to me! The second week in Chile and of my Spanish lessons went much better, once I accepted that I was not going to get fluent in two weeks, and should just focus on learning key phrases rather than accurate verb conjucation. Im not sure how happy my teacher was with me not taking school too seriously, but what can I say? Old habbits die hard! Last week, I went out in the evening with other students from the school, to a bar to watch traditional Chilean dancing, which should have been an enriching cultural experience, however because of my excitement at the "all you can drink" conditions, my memory of that night is as follows: We arrived at the bar, it was all you can drink, there was some kind of Tango on stage, I debated with one of the teachers why Europeans were better at football ...

Kate Mosse explains the role of tarot cards in Sepulchre

Kate Mosse explains the role of tarot cards in Sepulchre Tube. Duration : 2.13 Mins.

Kate Mosse describes her fascination with tarot cards and how they relate to her new novel, Sepulchre... October 1891: A young girl, Léonie Vernier, and her brother, Anatole, are invited to leave the gas-lit streets of Paris and travel south to a mysterious country house - La Domaine de la Cade - near Carcassonne. There, in the ancient, dark woods, Leonie comes across a ruined sepulchre and is drawn into a century's old mystery of murder, ghosts and a strange set of tarot cards that seem to hold enormous power over life and death. October 2007: Meredith Martin decides to take a break from her research trip in Paris - where she is studying Claude Debussy - and head down south to a beautiful hotel in the woods. She becomes fascinated by the history of the place and particularly by the tragic events of one Halloween night more than a century before that shocked the small community. Thus her fate becomes entwined with that of Leonie. But it is only when she too stumbles over a secluded glade in the forest that she realises that the secrets it contains are far from dead and buried¿ A haunting mystery of revenge and obsession, set against the rich backdrop of southern France, SEPULCHRE is the stunning new novel from the bestselling author of LABYRINTH. Visit www.orionbooks.co.uk to find out more about Kate Mosse and Sepulchre.

BARGING THROUGH FRANCE PT 9 - BEAUJOLAIS

BARGING THROUGH FRANCE PT 9 - BEAUJOLAIS Tube. Duration : 26.78 Mins.

I arrived in Villaefranche, the capital of the Beaujolais on my old tug, the Regina to witness a very curious ceremony which I imagine must be unique. Conscription in France started in 1792 and the Wave or La Vague in French started in Villefranche 160 years ago. The men folk are split up into groups of conscripts for every ten years and they all get a different coloured ribbon to tie round their top hats. Recruits or first 10 years get green ribbons, yellow for guys between 30-40 years, red for between 50-60 yeas, blue 60-70 years, mauve 70-80 years, 80-90 years blue, white red and over 90 years you get to ride in a car. The idea is that everyone carries a bunch of mimosa with red carnations in it and then they dance down the main street of Villefranche to commemorate their society and then they give their posies to the mothers, wives or girlfriends. Everybody has a good breakfast of lentils cooked with ham and Montbeliard sausage and lentils and washed down with litres of Beaujolais the wine of the terroir. Because everyone is well oiled before they start dancing down the street they all find it easy to form the endless wave. This society dedicates itself to doing good works and helping others when not dancing up and down the main drag. Then we watch how the vines in the Beaujolais are pruned. A good pruner can do 800 metres of vines a day making 15000 cuts. Vines are no good in damp ground I was told. Then I stayed with Isabelle at her bed and breakfast. She explained ...

Travelling by Train in Europe

Spending time in Europe can be a great pleasure if you get organised in advance. Let's take a look at the endless possibilities that become available to you when you look to travel by train.

For those flying in from North America, Australasia or elsewhere in the world, Europe can be an intriguing but slightly daunting place.

Paris Travel Card

It may not have the scale of larger continents but it has masses of history and culture. Visiting Europe for the first time can be difficult because it's hard to pick where to begin. Should you travel to historic London, with the splendour related with the Royal Family, the Houses of Parliament and St Pauls Cathedral? Or maybe opt for the romance of Paris or Venice?

If you have the time then a great selection is to tour Europe by train. In four or five weeks you can soak up the charm of the continent, with all of continental Europe available to you - the rail link between France and Great Britain means that a visit to England is perfectly potential as part of your rail journey.

The first piece of guidance that I can give is that you should purchase a European train travel pass. There are particularly good deals available for those under 26 years of age. The Eurail Pass Youth card, for example, allows individuals within this age group to travel widely on the European rail network for 15 days, 21 days, 1 month, 2 months or 3 months (depending on the type of pass that you purchase).

What that means is that you won't have to worry about paying the fares complex with private train journeys. You'll find that this selection can save you a lot of money, giving you the freedom to travel extensively without worrying too much about the costs involved.

The exact route that you take will be very much an private decision, as will the time that you spend in each location. I would no ifs ands or buts suggest trying to stay a minimum of 3 days in any large European cities. Personally, I think some of the highlights of any trip straight through Europe would have to contain London and Paris, for their architecture and historical importance.

The south coast of France, including the likes of Cannes, Nice and Monte Carlo is well worth visiting as so many sights will be well-known from films. It's also great to visit this area just to see how the other half live!

Visitors to Spain tend to opt for either Madrid or Barcelona. Madrid is obviously the capital, though I personally prefer Barcelona. Barcelona offers a charming city, dominated by the architecture of Gaudi, while its coastal location means that it is exquisite for sun-lovers too. Large parts of the city were re-developed for the 1992 Olympic Games.

Italy offers many treasures, but singular highlights would have to contain Naples (Napoli), Florence and Venice. The Leaning Tower of Pisa is placed in the city of Pisa, approximately 1 hour from Florence by train and intriguing a journey straight through the countryside of Tuscany.

Central European favourites would lead to Vienna, Budapest, Prague and Krakow. Finally, two more supreme northern European cities, Berlin and Amsterdam, would generate a great schedule for any visit.

Those would be my own personal favourites if I was plotting my own itinerary for a train trip of Europe - you'll find your own passions as you travel. Most importantly of all - enjoy yourself!

Taking the Wrong Bus Outside Paris, France

Taking the Wrong Bus Outside Paris, France Tube. Duration : 4.20 Mins.

It was very informative! This Arab guy was talking to me, something about Algeria. I learned a lot. Over 80 languages are spoken in Saint-Denis, France. In my nabe, if you speak to an Arab in Arabic, they probably won't understand you or appreciate it. They might speak Berber, or maybe Farsi. Ga is a useful language where I live, too. And Urdu. When I ask a question in French in my supermarket, the local Arabs (many are Moroccan) answer me in ENGLISH! My spouse speaks English with me, refusing to speak to me in French for 16 years now, so I've learned rather slowly, this "language of love." Carry your passport or national identity card AT ALL TIMES in France. It is the LAW. But NEVER put it in the same place as your keys, your address, et cetera, or you'll have to call a locksmith RIGHT AWAY! If you can figure out how to use the Yellow Pages here (Pages Jaunes? I dunno, I don't even know how to call the Fire Department, they keep changing the number here every year or so, it seems!) copyright 2010 Lisa B. Falour all rights reserved cutecatfaith.com

Good voyage Purses Keep Your Vacation Safe

A few years ago, while sitting on a Paris Metro (my backpack pressed firmly against the wall), I watched a young Parisian woman moderately unzipping the handbag of a lady standing in front of me (her small bag slung 'round to the back of her body). Luckily for her, I reached out and grabbed the bag, and the would-be thief jumped off the train at the next station. Obviously, the woman whose vacation I heroically salvaged was unaware of Paris' reputation for pickpockets and other unsavory types.

Paying attentiveness to one's surroundings, whether traveling overseas or closer to home can mean the unlikeness in the middle of a good time and a bad one; but so does having the right travel purse. A good travel purse can be large or small, casual or elegant, depending on where and how long you're traveling, and how much stuff you're willing to drag around. Personally, I can commonly make do with a cell phone, a lipstick and a reputation card. I'm low maintenance, but if you're not, not to worry as there's a bag for you beauty queens, too.

Paris Travel Card

Typically, for a one to two week trip, I always bring one carry-on bag with wheels, and one camera bag with shoulder strap and compartments for a wallet, phone, and other essentials. This way, I can get nearby quickly and truly and still have two hands free to whether buy a soda or fend off perps. I also carry a small flat (about 6"x8"), leather shoulder bag that fits those essentials above, and still has room for my passport, cash, a comb, pen and notepad, and not too much else. I can wear it under my coat, a sweater, a shirt, etc., and it's virtually undetectable. Yes, you can also stick money in your bra or socks, but it seems a bit tacky to stick a hand down one's shirt when the bill arrives. (The waiter could get the wrong idea!)

These days, travel bags and purses come in a wide collection of styles and designs so even the most fashion minded among us can find something suitable. Practical can be stylish, too. It's a good idea to think bags that are travel-safe, which means they also have lots of compartments to keep your valuables organized, so you don't become a target while digging for your keys or coins for the pay toilet. (The right coins in the right currency? Such a pain!) Theft-proof features include wire-enforced shoulder straps (that can't be cut with scissors), slash-proof nylon, and pocket zipper pulls that lock (something the woman on the Paris Metro could use since I can't always be with her).

Leather and nylon are the most durable materials, but also think a bag that's waterproof if you'll be at the beach or in London. Also, select a bag that's lightweight with convertible handles (look, it's a clutch, no, it's a handbag, no, it's a shoulder bag) for positive reasons. A body pack is great when you only need an item or two for the day, especially since all thieves know about money belts (which can also be uncomfortable, especially if you're packing a few extra pounds nearby the middle).

Traveling to a wedding, class reunion, or some other event that requires wearing your finest jewels in order to make others jealous? Then think a travel jewelry roll to collect your house heirlooms. They're ready in a collection of sizes to fit your purse or suitcase. truly want to make them green with envy? Then go for the travel jewelry case-and a hotel with a big safe. Happy trails!

The Manilow Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino

Many of the most flourishing casinos in Las Vegas are themed, from Caesar's Palace with its antique Roman theme to Luxor with its antique Egyptian one. The Manilow Paris Las Vegas hotel and casino has the positive theme of Paris, France. Further, as the name suggests, it is also the Las Vegas home of Barry Manilow, the illustrious singer. After Barry Manilow, the hotel and casino is best known for its one third scale replica of the Eiffel Tower, which offers some of the best views - and photo opportunities - of the Las Vegas Strip.

The Casino

Paris Travel Card

Though it is by no means the largest casino in Las Vegas, the Manilow Paris Las Vegas has turned itself into one of the most romantic hotel casinos in the city. The gaming itself is fairly minuscule but should have sufficient to keep most people fairly happy. The casino has some 1,700 slot machines, which are arranged nearby the base of the illustrious replica of the Eiffel Tower. They also offer Keno and sports betting. The area devoted to race and sports' betting is state of the art and brilliantly put together, and offers all the perks that an avid bettor could ever want.

As for the actual gambling, the Manilow Paris offers baccarat (and mini-baccarat), craps, Pai Gow Poker, poker, and roulette. As for the poker, they offer tables for both recreational players and professionals as well as the choice between Texas Hold'em and Seven Card Stud. Pai Gow Poker, which integrates some of the rules from Chinese dominoes (Pai Gow) and American poker has come to be approved throughout American casinos. Despite the Paris theme, the Manilow Paris does Not offer European - sometimes referred to as French - roulette, with a single zero on the wheel. Instead it is the general American roulette with the double zero which significantly lowers your chances of winning.

The Hotel

As part of the Harrah's Entertainment family of hotel casinos, the largest in the United States, the Manilow Paris reflects the same sense of affordable luxury that the company's other properties do and if you ask for it, you can receive discounts and other hotel deals in Las Vegas [http://www.parislasvegas.com/] and additional facts for events and entertainments in case, granted by other Harrah's hotel casinos in town. The farranging store strategy of the Manilow Paris is one of French sophistication couples with a romantic sentiment, making it an exquisite choice for newlyweds or couples that would appreciate a bit more romance than many of the Strips hotel casinos can offer.

There is also a full a full assistance spa, the Paris Spa by Mandara, which features all things you would expect from a modern spa, as well as added amenities such as a full fitness town and personal trainers. Operated by Mandara, from Bali, the spa is distinctive and commonly well reviewed and absolutely unique to Las Vegas. The Manilow Paris also emphasizes the nightlife, and hosts six dissimilar all night venues fluctuating from the ultra-modern Risqué nightclub to discrete jazz lounges. Beyond Barry Manilow and Anthony Cools (the illusionist), as part of the Harrah's family of companies, the Manilow Paris routinely features world class entertainment opportunities and can help guests see shows at other Harrah's locations in Las Vegas.

Why should I Have prestige Cards

Essentially, because prestige cards can save us all a great deal of time, hassles, and even money in some cases. The key to being a prestige card holder is to never over-extend yourself and to make sure that you use the prestige cards responsibly. In the United States, at least eighty percent of household have one form of prestige card, while most have multiple. There are many advantages to having and using prestige cards, again, provided that they are used responsibly.

Credit Cards can save you a great deal of time in many distinct ways. For example, thanks to prestige cards, you do not have to worry about carrying checks, cash, or running off to the bank before it closes. Furthermore, thanks to the internet, prestige cards can be used all over the internet to shop for needed items or gifts. This means you beat the rush at the store at Christmas time or if you are admittedly pressed for time, you do not have to drive over town, hunt all over the store (or many stores), and wait in line. prestige cards just have made life a whole lot easier.

Paris Travel Card

What is more is that today, it is very difficult to get hotel reservations, car rental, airline tickets, or any form of tour arrangements without a prestige card. prestige cards can also be used as a form of identification in assorted distinct situations. As you can see, prestige cards are a big help in a lot of ways. However, you may not know that they can even save you money. With a prestige card, you are protecting your cash essentially, this is true especially with bank debit cards that act like prestige cards.

You do not run the risk of losing your cash, if the card is stolen, thieves cannot generally use it because it requires a matching signature and sometimes identification as well. If you purchase an item that arrives damaged, not what you wanted, or naturally change your mind, most prestige cards furnish security against these sort of things, and you can return the item for your money back. Furthermore, many prestige cards safe against identity theft. If person were to steal your prestige card and endeavor to charge it, you would not be held responsible for those purchases.

Of all the ways prestige cards make life easier, it is no wonder why most Americans possess at least one in their wallet.

Of all the ways prestige cards make life easier, it is no wonder why most Americans possess at least one in their wallet.

travel Safely - Take Precautions Before Leaving Home

You've planned this for years, you've made a list of all the attractions and sights you've dreamed of finding up close, and you socked away money in coffee cans and special bank accounts to make this happen. Finally, it's time to embark on the vacation of a lifetime - a journey straight through Europe's most elegant and piquant cities, the Outback of Australia, or a whirlwind trip around America.

Whether you plan to remain within one or two countries, or hop on Eurail and peruse as much as you can, it's important to be ready before you leave home. You not only should have your hotel reservations made in advance, but it's important to take security precautions so there are no disturbances on your vacation.

Paris Travel Card

Keep everything Close at Hand! It's true that the fanny pack doesn't make much of a fashion statement, but if you are able to obtain a special trip carry-along where you have your important stuff - traveler's checks, passports, spare money, medications, and other essentials - you'll be ready to go. Make a copy of your passport and leave it with a trusted friend at home in the event something happens, and buy traveler's checks from a trustworthy source with protection. Leave the bank debit card at home if possible - identity theft is a big risk when abroad. Play it safe!

Need to Know Basis. With the rise in collective media, people are apt to tweet and add to Foursquare and other networks their whereabouts. It's fun to brag about your trip, but be mindful about posting. You don't want anyone to find out you've left your house vulnerable to threat! Leave your itinerary with a close friend or relative, then tweet about your vacation when you come home.

Change is Good. Conversation rates for currency convert often. These days most everyone takes plastic, but there are times you may need cash. Educate yourself on the best exchanges and the best places to make the trade. Banks and trip agencies commonly furnish good rates, and it's good to have at least -100 on hand in case of emergencies.

Get a Charge. certainly any friend who's been to Europe or Australia already will tell you to watch out for those galvanic outlets. You will need a special converter if you've packed your hair dryer - you can commonly find an uncostly one at Sears or Target.

Above all else, have fun! This is your dream vacation, so make the most of it.

10 Ways to Make Your Hotel Room Romantic

There are several ways that you can transform your hotel room in to your own hidden romantic hideaway. Of course, you either need to hire someone to pre-stage the room for you or you need to find your way in to the room before your valuable other gets there.

Below are the top 10 ways to enhance the look and feel of your guest room:
Music. The best way is to have an i-pod with transportable speakers (many hotels now have an i-pod docking station) so that you can pipe in her popular music to fill the room. Not too loud, though. Lighting. There is nothing worse than walking in to a room filled with thoughprovoking lights. Turn off all of the lights and strategically place some battery operated votive candles nearby the room (no fire hazard, allowed by hotels. Don't make the same mistake that some have made -- using real candles only to have the smoke hit super sensitive detectors and cause an alarm to go off). Close the drapes/shutters. Rose Petals. When the someone you are trying to impress opens the door, they will find a trail of rose petals foremost from the front door to the bed. Sprinkle lots of rose petals on the bed as well. As a extra note, most hotels don't like the use of real rose petals but you can use them as long as you are meticulous (e.g. If there is a white comforter in the room, protect the bed by placing a romantic blanket or throw on the bed and then place the petals on top). Flowers. Roses are king but some citizen don't care for them. Find out what her popular flower is, and place an arrangement in the room (or can just be a single flower on the bed or located in a bud vase). Edible decadence. Chocolate is an aphrodisiac and a popular for romantic occasions. Skip the deal basement heart shaped box and go for more of a high-end truffle from a local chocolatier or candy shop. Scent. Have you noticed how some hotel rooms smell like cleaning products? That can spoil the mood. Pick up a room fragrance spray from a store like the Body Shop. Or you can purchase a "plug in" and insert it into one of the room's outlets - just pick a romantic scent (like vanilla or jasmine) Bedding. Most nicer hotels have great sheets and comforters these days. But if you want to add something to the experience, bring your own Satin sheets and re-make the bed (yes, a petite bit of extra work but worth it) or add a throw or faux fur blanket to the bed. Bubbly. Champagne all the time marks a extra occasion and will go well with the chocolates. If not in to alcohol, then Sparkling cider is a great substitute (or non-alcoholic sparkling wine). Love letter. You've set this whole room up - but why? Tell your extra someone in a note -- but not a piece of binder paper. Buy a nice card, write something extra and leave it in the room on the bed. Extras. Some other nice touches are having a bath ready (decorated nearby the rim of the tub with candles and rose petals), a framed photo of the two of you in the room, and a massage kit. Some couples may opt to hire someone for a couples massage - but would you rather massage your partner or have some stranger touching them?
